Introduction
Dear friends. Welcome. We are glad you’ve landed here. Please have a read about what this retreat could offer you.
The retreat will be spread over the NZ Anzac Day long weekend, which means we will have 3 nights to spend at the beautiful Waihoanga Retreat Centre located at Otaki Gorge, tucked away from the busy world and yet not too far away from Wellington, in case you’re coming from overseas.
As the title says, the retreat is about Meditation and specifically Nada Meditations. Nada means sound in Sanskrit. We are going to use the methods of meditation that are focused on implementing sounds to help our minds and senses withdraw inwards and find the inner restful place, or we could say to make steps towards the re-connection with our innermost Self. As a result, we may experience a deeper sense of silence.
These techniques include:
- listening to specific meditative music played on bamboo flutes from Japanese and Indian classical/temple music
- Chanting of traditional Vedic mantras and/or Kirtans
- Chanting and studying of longer chants called Bhajans or Stotras
- Guided Self-inquiry Meditations
Other practices during the retreat:
- Gentle Yoga Asana Sessions
- Yoga Nidra guided relaxation
- Silent walk
- Satsang with Q&A
- Afternoon Free Time
Silent Retreat?
The retreat will NOT be a fully silent retreat, but will include silence during simple daily activities, such as eating, washing up, and walking. There will be a silent period overnight, from the end of our evening sessions till the morning after breakfast. Our main hall for sadhana will be a quiet zone during the whole time. There are plenty of spaces within the retreat centre to meet others and talk.
This retreat is ideal for
- beginners in meditation and yoga who are looking to grow their practice
- experienced meditators who enjoy the richness of retreats
- spiritual seekers walking the path of Bhakti and/or Gyana Yoga
- meditation and yoga teachers interested in growing professionally
This retreat is facilitated by Swami Madhuram Puri
